Former UCLA commit Hunter Echols chooses USC

Two weeks after withdrawing his commitment from UCLA, four-star defensive end Hunter Echols announced his pledge to USC on Friday night.

Echols told Scout.com that once he decommited from UCLA, the Bruins didn’t send him an offer letter and “it just made sense to go our separate ways.”

One of three Cathedral High players to decommit from UCLA since May, Echols said he was “over the (recruiting) process” and settled on USC because he had a great relationship with the staff, including head coach Clay Helton, who recruited him “harder than another other head coach.”
