UCLA athletes win nine medals at Rio Olympics

UCLA athletes took home nine medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, which wrapped up Sunday.

Incoming freshman Madison Kocian won gold in the women’s gymnastics team event while also claiming an individual silver medal on the uneven bars.

In women’s water polo, KK Clark, Rachel Fattal, Sami Hill, Courtney Mathewson and Maddie Musselman helped Team USA to the gold medal, while former Bruin Adam Krikorian coached the team. 

Jessie Fleming won a bronze in women’s soccer with Team Canada. Karsta Lowe also claimed a bronze in women’s volleyball with Team USA, which was coached by former Bruin Karch Kiraly.

UCLA men’s volleyball head coach John Speraw guided the U.S. men’s volleyball team to a bronze medal with fellow Bruins Andrea Becker and Erik Sullivan on the staff.
