Freshmen adjust to college life in different ways and different speeds. Many UCLA fans were expecting to see both Mique Juarez and Theo Howard with significant playing time at this point in the season and for different reasons, it hasn’t happened.
Juarez spoke about why he’s been absent for the past six weeks and said he does intend to return to the program in the future.
Meanwhile, receivers coach Eric Yarber said Howard is coming along, but just needs more time to hone his skills. The team has a special package of plays for Howard that will help build his confidence, which will then lead to success, Yarber hopes.

Personnel notes:
- Takkarist McKinley (groin) was on the sideline at practice today. He reaggravated his groin injury against BYU, but stayed in the game until he was later shaken up again. He walked off the field after the incident and head coach Jim Mora said the senior defensive end was OK. McClure expects McKinley to play Saturday.
- Boss Tagaloa (ankle) practiced on Tuesday, but McClure is unsure of the freshman’s status for Saturday. He will be further evaluated at the week goes on. Tagaloa missed the game against BYU.
