UPDATED: JIM MORA DENIES NERVE DAMAGE, DOES NOT RULE JOSH ROSEN OUT FOR SEASON

Bruin Report Online reported Tuesday morning that quarterback Josh Rosen is likely out for the rest of the season with a severe shoulder sprain that resulted in some nerve damage.

Rosen missed two games after suffering the injury in the closing minutes against Arizona State. He has been limited in practice since, including some very labored throws last Saturday, and did not even appear present during the open period the previous two days. The Bruins (3-5, 1-4 Pac-12) have four games left during the regular season.

According to BRO, the injury is “potentially serious” with very little method to determine if or when Rosen will regain normal nerve activity. The recovery time for previous quarterbacks with the injury ranged from several weeks to multiple months with surgery.

Fifth-year senior Mike Fafaul will take the starting quarterback position for the remainder of the year if Rosen doesn’t return. Fafaul is 68 for 122 for 779 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions this season.

*For those wondering, I don’t think Rosen would be granted a medical redshirt because those are usually reserved for players who suffered their season-ending injury within the first three games of the season (the first quarter of the year). Similar to how LB Josh Woods didn’t get a redshirt after only playing one game last year because it happened late in the year.
