Aaron Holiday and UCLA moved up three spots this week in the Associated Press poll

Here is the ballot I submitted for Week 3 of the Associated Press college basketball poll. I hit UCLA on the number this week, moving the Bruins up thee spots as they ascended to the highest-scoring team in the country.

How I voted:
1. Kentucky
The thought of giving Villanova my first-place vote certainly crossed my mind, but Kentucky’s dismantling of Michigan State was more impressive to me than Villanova’s much more narrow win over Purdue.
2. Villanova
3. Virginia
4. Indiana
5. Kansas
6. Duke
Steve Alford noted today at UCLA practice that the days of going undefeated in a college basketball season are long gone. This Duke squad, the best team on paper I’ve seen in a long time, is a prime example of that.
7. North Carolina
8. Arizona
9. Gonzaga
10. Louisville
11. St. Mary’s
12. Xavier
13. Purdue
14. UCLA
The Bruins move up three spots on my ballot more because those ahead of them have suffered losses, though UCLA deserves credit for its display of offense through four games even though its schedule has been soft.
15. Syracuse
16. Creighton
17. West Virginia
18. Oregon
19. Wisconsin
20. Michigan State
I don’t like to punish teams for playing a difficult schedule. It was Michigan State’s controversial one-point win over Florida Gulf Coast that was the largest factor in dropping it eight spots on my ballot.
21. Iowa State
22. Rhode Island
23. Texas
24. Dayton
25. Miami
