Darnay Holmes picks UCLA

UCLA picked up a huge victory on the recruiting trail at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday as five-star defensive back Darnay Holmes committed to UCLA.

Holmes is the top defensive back in the country, according to Scout.com, and turned down Nebraska, Ohio State and USC.

In picking UCLA, the Calabasas cornerback said on NBC he wanted to stay near his family and represent his home town.

It’s been a good two days of recruiting for UCLA as it picked up four-star recruits Martin Andrus and Rahyme Johnson on Friday, but the Bruins still only have 13 commits for the class of 2017.

The Bruins have two five-star commits (Jaelan Phillips and Holmes) and some highly ranked talent on defense, but need a push on offense. They don’t have any true receivers and only have two offensive linemen.

UCLA’s commits so far:

  • DE Jaelan Phillips (will enroll early)
  • OL Kanan Ray
  • OLB Rahyme Johnson
  • DT Martin Andrus
  • DB/WR Jaylan Shaw
  • TE Jimmy Jaggers (will enroll early)
  • OL Jaxson Kirkland
  • DB Quentin Lake
  • QB Austin Burton
  • DE Cassius Peat
  • DT Greg Rogers
  • DB Darnay Holmes
  • DE My-King Johnson (but said to be a soft verbal commit)

Holmes’ future teammates seem excited:
