UCLA adds transfer TE Devin Asiasi

UCLA announced the addition of former Michigan tight end Devin Asiasi to the roster Thursday, reuniting the De La Salle product with former high school teammate Boss Tagaloa and former Wolverine assistants Jedd Fisch and Jimmie Dougherty.

Asiasi was a four-star tight end coming out of high school and nearly chose UCLA, but went to Michigan. With the Wolverines, he played in all 13 games as a true freshman but caught only two passes for 18 yards and a touchdown.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound sophomore will have to sit out a year due to transfer rules. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Asiasi would be transferring from Ann Arbor in February, the coach told M Live that the tight end left in “great status. He was doing great in school, doing great in football.”

UCLA has a host of tight ends on its roster, including Austin Roberts and Caleb Wilson, who are returning with playing experience last year. The Bruins signed Jimmy Jaggers and Moses Robinson-Carr in their 2017 recruiting class and will bring Jordan Wilson off his redshirt year.

During the past two years at Michigan, where Fisch was the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, the Wolverines relied heavily on the tight end position. Jake Butt won the Big Ten’s Tight End of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

UCLA starts spring practice in one month where the new offensive coaching staff will unveil their plans to reinvigorate the Bruin attack.
