Three UCLA teams start NCAA tournament runs this weekend, including the No. 1-seeded women’s water polo team that faces Wagner in the first round in Indianapolis on Friday at 9 a.m.

Women’s water polo (22-1) won the MPSF tournament and is playing for its first NCAA championship since 2009. Freshman Maddie Musselman leads the Bruins in scoring with 59 goals this season as she also won the MPSF Newcomer of the Year. Redshirt senior Rachel Fattal is one of three finalists for the Peter J. Cutino Award, the top individual prize in collegiate water polo.

The men’s tennis team is hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament, but will be without its top singles player. Senior Gage Brymer underwent surgery for an upper body injury Tuesday and will be out for the rest of the season, the school announced Thursday. Brymer, who was ranked 28th in the country in singles, ends his UCLA career with a 78-33 overall singles record. The No. 5 Bruins (19-5) face Army in the first round at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts on Friday at 1 p.m. Ole Miss and UC Santa Barbara play in the other first-round match Friday at 10 a.m.

The women’s tennis team was sent to the Pepperdine regional of the NCAA tournament, where it will face UC Santa Barbara in the first round Friday at 10 a.m. Freshman Ena Shibahara leads the Bruins (13-8) at No. 1 singles with a 37-5 overall record.
