Three-star RB AJ Carter flips UCLA commitment to LSU

UCLA showed interest in three-star running back AJ Carter early in the Louisiana native’s recruiting process and he rewarded the school with an early commitment last April.

Then LSU called.

Carter flipped his commitment from the Bruins to his home-state Tigers on Monday. He officially received an LSU offer only three days ago.

Carter, who was UCLA’s only running back for the 2018 class, wrote on social media that he “appreciate(s) (Jim Mora and DeShaun Foster) for seeing my ability before anyone else. However, I feel like I have to follow another path. I have to follow my dream.”

Foster, UCLA’s first-year running backs coach, began recruiting Carter while he was still at Texas Tech before honoring the offer for UCLA. The Bruins have 12 commits for the 2018 class now:

  • ATH Isaiah Johnson
  • DL Aaron Maldonado
  • OT Blake McDonald
  • S Cam’ron Jones
  • WR Kyle Phillips
  • QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson
  • S Stephan Blaylock
  • DL Niti Liu
  • OL Jason Dickson
  • OL Chris Bleich
  • OL Marco Brewer
  • OL Trey Stratford
