This week, Josh Rosen said he most wants to improve on turnovers for his sophomore season. He pointed out that eight of his 13 turnovers last season came in what he called “our biggest losses,” which were the losses to Arizona State, Stanford, USC and Nebraska.

His 11 interceptions were the most among the top true freshman quarterbacks last year. It’s odd to think he could reach such a number when also remembering that he set a school record for completed passes without an interception (245).

Here’s a closer look at Rosen’s game-by-game turnovers, broken down by when they occurred during each game: Continue reading “Josh Rosen hopes to improve on fatal freshman flaw: turnovers” »

Day 2 is in the books.

Here’s a notebook from practice, focusing about the team’s commitment to physical play on both sides of the ball.

Watch post-practice interviews here with clips from Tom Bradley, Marques Tuiasosopo, Kenny Young and Eldridge Massington. Scroll down in this post for full interviews with Bradley and Tuiasosopo.

Here are some notes/observations from practice:

— After a rough day on Tuesday, the offense was a lot sharper during the two scrimmage periods. It wasn’t enough to outshine the defense though, as the offense “lost” the second scrimmage and had to run. Head coach Jim Mora kept a tally of which side won each play (i.e. if the defense made a stop or if the offense gained the necessary yardage) and the defense ended up winning on the last play. The offense was sentenced to running the length of the field. Offensive coaches ran too, just much slower than the players.

Josh Rosen had some good throws during practice, including a 50-yard strike to Kenny Walker. It was slightly underthrown, but Walker made a great adjustment to catch it over a defender. Rosen also sent a good deep throw to Darren Andrews during the 7-on-7 period.

Eldridge Massington caught a few good passes in the middle of the field. He said after practice that he and Rosen are developing a good relationship, and that he tells the quarterback to “throw me the dang ball.” Continue reading “Spring practice day 2: Defense wins scrimmage, offense progressing” »
