UCLA 59, New Mexico State 13: Devin Fuller

Receiver Devin Fuller led the team with 48 yards and a touchdown, but could have topped 100 with three scores if quarterback Brett Hundley had hit him on a couple of open routes.

“We missed a deep one today,” Fuller said. “I normally will run under those in practice, but today he had a little umph on it. We’ve just gotta hit those in practice a little bit more and hopefully they’ll come in the game.”

UCLA 59, New Mexico State 13: Randall Goforth

Safety Randall Goforth’s six solo tackles tied a career high, matching his output against Nebraska in 2012 in his second game as a true freshman. The sophomore also tacked on a pair of pass breakups and a forced fumble against New Mexico State.

Asked if he thought it was his best game as Bruin, Goforth said: “I don’t know, really. I just go out there and do my job. We schemed for them pretty well this week, so my job was to just go out there and play fast.”

UCLA 59, New Mexico State 13: Anthony Barr

New Mexico State quarterback King Davis III didn’t throw a single pass on his team’s first drive. Yet, the Aggies easily got three first downs, with tailback Brandon Betancourt running for four, six, five, eight, and seven yards, and Davis adding another seven.

“I think we were playing a little too aggressive,” UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr said. “We had a pretty good idea what they were going to. We recognized the formation and what the play-call was going to be, and we tried to jump the gun a little bit.”

The Bruins stuffed the drive soon after that, forcing punt to the 14-yard line. The Aggies finished with 21 first downs, far behind UCLA’s school-record 39.

UCLA 59, New Mexico State 13: Steve Manfro

The first time he touched the ball on Saturday, Steve Manfro ripped off a 70-yard kickoff return — the team’s longest in nearly two years. On his first three plays from scrimmage, the sophomore totaled 53 offensive yards, bumping UCLA’s lead to 21-0 with a 20-yard touchdown catch and a 12-yard scoring run.

“Whatever I can do to help benefit the team, whether that’s on special teams, offense or whatever,” Manfro said. “I’m just trying to help the team and do whatever I can.”

UCLA 59, New Mexico State 13: Noel Mazzone

Despite not looking seamless on offense, UCLA romped for a school-record 692 yards. The star quarterback had an uncharacteristically rough day, missing receivers and throwing two interceptions in the red zone. Tailback Jordon James also had a fumble at the five-yard line on the Bruins’ opening drive.

“Anytime you have three turnovers in the red zone, we had some penalties — holding penalties, some offsides — yeah, I’m not happy about that.” offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone said. “But (Hundley) made some good plays for us. To me, it was kind of an inconsistent night for us offensively.”
