UCLA 41, Oregon State 0: Receiver Jordan Payton

UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen completed 22 of 33 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns at Oregon State on Saturday, continuing his run of interception-free football. The true freshman was particularly effective in the second quarter, going 13 of 15 for 213 yards.

The performance marked his fourth 300-yard game of the season, tying him for third on the UCLA single-season list. Cade McNown had six such games in 1998 as a senior, while Brett Hundley had five in 2014 as a redshirt junior.

“He has full control,” receiver Jordan Payton said of Rosen. “He’s seen a lot of pressures, a lot of different schemes. Now, he has the reins. He’s playing outstanding. … He’s seen it all so far. It’s an honor to play with a kid that learns that fast and can definitely take the control as a freshman.”

Payton is taking aim at school records too. He made five catches for 71 yards against the Beavers, giving him 173 career receptions. He is third all-time behind Kevin Jordan (179, 1992-95) and Craig Bragg (193, 2001-04).

UCLA safety Jaleel Wadood made his first career interception on Saturday, picking off Oregon State’s Nick Mitchell at the 11-yard line in the Bruins’ 41-0 win.

“It was great,” he said. “I thought I had one on Arizona that got called back. Just playing within the game, playing within the techniques and stuff. Pick was exciting, man. First of many, hopefully.”

UCLA defensive end Takkarist McKinley had two of UCLA’s three sacks on Oregon State quarterback Nick Mitchell in the Bruins’ 41-0 win on Saturday.

The former JUCO transfer had entered the weekend with just 1.5 sacks. His performance against the Beavers, who had given up only 13 sacks through eight games, only pushed him to dwell on his missed opportunities earlier this season.

“I feel like I should be in double digits,” McKinley said. “I feel like I missed about four at Cal. Missed one at UNLV. Missed a couple at BYU. We preach, ‘Finish, finish, finish.’ Just gotta finish better. Those are crucial plays. I feel like I did pretty good today, though.”
