Chip Kelly will sign his first official recruits as UCLA’s head coach this week, but just how many prospects will put pen to paper during the sport’s first-ever early signing period?
The Bruins have 12 known verbal commitments for the class of 2018 so far. Some are wavering and will delay their signings. Others are ready to make it official and send in their national letters of intent this week. Here’s some of what to watch for this week with UCLA’s recruiting class:
- Expected to sign this week:
- RB Kazmeir Allen will sign his NLI in a ceremony at Tulare Union High on Wednesday at 10 a.m., according to his Twitter account
- WR Chase Cota is expected to sign this week and enroll at UCLA in time for winter quarter, the Medford, Ore., product said while announcing his commitment last week.
- WR Jahan Dotson, a four-star recruit who committed to UCLA in September, has scheduled a signing ceremony for Wednesday, according to The Morning Call, but could spurn the Bruins for another school. He told the Pennsylvania newspaper he is not guaranteed to sign with UCLA. 247 Sports has him as a possible flip to Penn State.
- LB Bo Calvert was expected to sign with USC on Wednesday, but announced his change of heart Monday and will sign with the Bruins instead.
- WR Kyle Philips told 247 Sports earlier this month he’s planning to sign during the early signing period and enroll in January.
- WR Braden Lenzy will announce his decision Friday at 3 p.m. The Oregon receiver is deciding between his hometown Ducks, Notre Dame and UCLA.
- Commits expected to wait until February
- QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson posted on Twitter on Tuesday he will sign in February, writing “National Signing Day is special and you only get to sign once so I will wait to enjoy my moment.”
- CB Olaijah Griffin and DE Abdul-Malik McClain just came off official visits and are still weighing their options, the pair of Southern California products told Dan Albano of the OC Register.
- S Stephen Blaylock told the 247 Sports he will wait to see which other recruits Kelly can rope in by February.
