New MRI technology at San Antonio Community Hospital

| | Comments (1) |
San Antonio Community Hospital is now a 3Tesla MRI-equipped facility.

The MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) recently installed at the hospital is considered the gold standard in MRI technology, and provides hospital physicians with greater clarity and diagnostic abilities when examining patients for a variety of diseases, according to a news release from San Antonio Community Hospital.

The magnets in an MRI machine are rated on the Tesla Scale. The typical MRI machine Tesla rating is 1.5T.

Stroke and brain surgery patients are among the chief beneficiaries, but also has applications for imaging the spine, muscles, bones, joints and breast tissue.

The 3Tesla MRI is part of San Antonio Community Hospital's ongoing effort to bring the latest technology to their patients, according to the release.

I was scheduled for a 3Tesla MRI for c-spine injury. When asked my weight (98 lbs.) I was told I would have to go with the 1.5T. I have not been able to find anyone that explain to me what my weight has to do with the higher Tesla scan.\
