Several storms are expected to drench the Inland Empire this weekend, bringing rain, high winds, snow and chilly temperatures to the area.
Forecasters estimate two to four inches
of rain could fall in the San Bernardino Mountains, one to two inches
in San Bernardino and surrounding areas and an inch of rain in the
deserts between the weekend and the middle of next week.
"It looks like winter is arriving a week early," said Bill Patzert, climatologist with Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
Weather forecasters expect the first storm to bring rain today and
Sunday. A larger storm coming in from Northern Canada may bring even
more rain beginning Monday.
By early next
week, temperatures will sink into the low 60s, 50s and possibly into
the 40s in parts of San Bernardino County, Patzert said.
"Considering what a dry spring, summer and fall we've had, everybody has to embrace the storm," he said.
The snow level could fall from 7,000 feet to about 4,000 to 5,000 feet next week.
That's
good news for ski resorts around the county, and the anticipation was
running high Friday as workers kept their eyes on the skies.
Jane
Rupel, assistant office manager at Mt. Baldy Ski Resort, said the
morning brought a couple of flurries, but mostly clouds and cold
temperatures.
"We're hoping to get enough from this storm to have full operation next week," she said.
