The victim of a deadly apartment complex shooting in Upland on Tuesday night was a gang member, police said today.

Manuel Vega, 29, of Upland was outside his apartment in the 300 block of South Stillman Avenue at 6:09 p.m. when the gunman approached him, said Upland police Sgt. Cliff Mathews.

The gunman opened fire on Vega and fled the complex on foot.
Police had not made any arrests, but learned some information about Vega, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The victim has been identified as a gang member," Mathews said.
No physical description was available on the shooter.

Anyone with information on this case may call Upland police, (909) 946-7624.
"We would welcome any information that anybody has," Mathews said.
