San Antonio Heights residents angered at fellow residents for friendly feeling toward bear

Stephen Christensen believes the San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy was justified in shooting the Black bear seen often throughout the community pf San Antonio Heights.

The San Antonio Heights resident witnessed much of the incident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday outside of his home.

He does not believe many of the residents upset at the deputy over the death are thinking logically.

"This is called logic versus emotion and logic always wins," Christensen said. "These other people are simply talking out of emotion and not really allowing for what could happen."

His wife, Ellen, saw children running down the street prior to the bear getting shot. Some residents dispute the idea that the bear was chasing the children.

"Maybe it would have convinced people more had the bear run one of the children down," he said.

Christensen said he doesn't agree with some of the residents' view of the bear as a friendly bear.

"I haven't seen anyone yet in San Antonio Heights who has the nerve to go over there and pet that bear or get in the swimming pool with him," he said.

When the officer shot the bear the bear screamed out in pain. I cried. What an awful way to die. It's very sad.

all of the people saying the bear was "friendly". should have thought , 'what if he was chasing me' I'm sure then they wouldn't be saying the bear was innocent. uh of course the bear cried out! that bear is huge. its not like the cop carries around tranquilizer darts! would you rather the bear kill you or it be killed?!?

The logical solution should have involved the Fish & Game and not the deputies.
Fish & Game are trained and paid to handle situations like these.
Most bears when confronted by humans will turn and run in the other direction just as this one did before the deputy took it's life.
I do not recall reading that this bear that was in the area for sometime attacking anyone.
To me that's THINKING LOGICALLY !!
