Upland brothers to serve honorary position during fundraiser walk at Santa Ana Zoo
Brothers Thomas Baxter, 4, and Scott Baxter, 3, will serve as honorary ambassadors at Easter Seals' 8th annual "Walk With Me" fundraiser benefiting children and adults with disabilities on October 3 at the Santa Ana Zoo.
The brothers, both from Upland, will lead hundreds of walkers at the event supporting local people with disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
Thomas and Scott were diagnosed with special needs, including speech and language delays, three years ago before they enrolled at Easter Seals Child Development Center in
Upland.
Their grandparents Mary-Helen and Peter Wingert had recently taken custody of the boys when their mom could no longer care for them.
Teachers worked on goals set for each child and noticed great improvement in time. Thomas did so well that he exited out of the special-needs program at the local school district after only a year. He graduated to a typical kindergarten class in June.
Scott started Early Head Start at one years old, with almost no ability to form words. He has since moved on to Head Start. In two more years he will also graduate to kindergarten.
Registration for the walk is $25.
Register online at ww.walkwithme.org/socal and use the online tools to raise
money for Easter Seals services.
Day-of event registration starts at 8 a.m., before the walk kicks off at 9 a.m.
There will be refreshments, music and family events.
Following the walk all participants are able to stay and enjoy the animals and wildlife at
the Santa Ana Zoo free of charge.
