Steven's Hope looking for gifts for ill children

| |
Steven's Hope in Upland is helping several hundred sick children in the area this Christmas through their annual Winter Wonderland program.

The non-profit is giving locals a chance to play Santa Claus for ill children whose parents cannot afford Christmas gifts this year due to medical and other related expenses.

Social workers from local hospitals sent a list of needy and sick kids that would like to have the joy of opening a gift on Christmas Day.

Members of the community who would like to participate can call the office and sponsor a child or family.

A list of gift ideas will be given and then the shopping can begin. Deliveries have already been planned, so those who wish to participate will have to sign up quickly.

To sign up call Sandy Cappelli at (909) 373-0678 or e-mail her at sandyc@stevenshope.org.

Last year, Steven's Hope and generous participants gave about 3,000 gifts valued at just over $40,000.

They were distributed to four hospitals: Loma Linda's Childrens Hospital, Kaiser Oncology in Fontana, San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland and Pomona Valley Hospital.

Steven's Hope estimates more than 600 children recieved gifts, about half wished for specific gifts while the others were given toys through toy drives.

Steven's Hope also looking for "financial santa"

Steven's Hope is also looking for a sponsor Santa to go along with their Winter Wonderland program.

The non-profit will throw a party for the families they are assisting through their various programs as well as families that still need help.

They are looking for a "financial Santa" to sponsor the party, which will be Dec. 16 at Loma Linda Hospital.

A $600 donation is being saught to cover the cost of food, drink and some extra touches for the sick children and their families.

Information or to help e-mail Sandy Cappelli at sandyc@stevenshope.org.
