Special Amish quilt to be auctioned off at festival Sat.
The
quilt was handmade by eleven women in an Amish community in Ohio.
Henny
van der Zwaag of Upland, took a train trip with her husband through
Canada a couple years ago when they met Emma Troyer and her husband,
Dan. They live in an Amish community in Ohio.
Van
der Zwaag kept in touch with the Emma Troyer and learned about their
lives in the Amish Community as well as the quilts she would make for
her daughters and daughters-in-law.
Van
der Zwaag is a volunteer with the annual festival and sale, which
includes a quilt auction as part of the festivities.
She
asked Troyer if she could make a quilt to be donated to the sale.
Troyer worked on the quilt with her sisters, sisters-in-law and
daughters.
The
festival is is part of the Mennonite Central Committee, which donates
the proceeds to world hunger and relief. This is the festival's 13th
year raising funds.
