Residents along San Antonio Avenue woke up today to the sound of the Upland Highland Regiment marching through their neighborhood.
The band and color guard from Upland High School marched up and down San Antonio Avenue between 13th Street and 21st Street to prepare for their 7-mile march in the 122nd annual Tournament of Roses Parade Saturday in Pasadena.
"The practice has been a little tough as far as physically demanding, but I think overall it's going to be worth it," said Mariam Rushing, a senior alto saxophone player. "I'm hoping it will all pay off on Saturday morning bright and early."
The Regiment earned their spot in the parade after winning the L.A. County Fair's Marching Band Competition in October 2009.
The parade begins at 8 a.m. The Regiment will begin their march by 9:52 a.m.
The Upland Highland Regiment recently received a funding boost from Farmer's Insurance.
The company gave the band and color guard $500 to help with Rose Parade expenses.
The Regiment will march in the 122nd Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1 in Pasadena.
The Farmer's donation is to help with travel and lodging expenses.
Farmer's has participated in the Rose Parade for more than 50 years and is dedicated to supporting music education at a time when budget cuts are forcing the elimination of music programs at schools around the nation, according to a Farmer's news release.
