Upland resident turns 102

Iris Stabile of Upland celebrated her 102^nd birthday Feb. 21 surrounded by four generations of family and friends at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Rancho Cucamonga.

Stabile was born on Feb. 22, 1909 in New York City.

One of Stabile's favor experiences was meeting Yankee great Babe Ruth on March 13, 1940.

She had just graduated from National School of Cosmeticians in New York. With her diploma in hand she entered a New York City butcher shop, where she spotted Ruth.

Not having a piece of paper available, she flipped over her diploma and had him autograph the back.

When people ask Stabile her secret to her long life and good looks she says, "A glass of wine everyday."
