The Scheu Family YMCA of Upland is holding their first Healthy Start Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at their new facility, 1150 E. Foothill Blvd.

There will be opportunity drawings, give-a-ways, food, sports and dance clinics, personal training sessions and more.

The event is free to the public.

The YMCA is also looking for volunteers to help with staff tours, program information and give-a-ways.

Volunteers are to wear their board pin for identification.

The Upland High School Theater Department will be performing "Almost, Maine," a romantic comedy, Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the auditorium, 565 W. 11th St.

Tickets are $8.

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday as well as 2 p.m. Saturday.





Ebook workshop at Library

The Upland Public Library is holding their third workshop on downloading library books to e-readers from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13.

Library users can learn how to sign up and log on to the library's digital library to check-out books for Nook, Kindle and iPad.

The workshop will be in the multipurpose room at 450 N. Euclid Ave.

Gino Filippi will be the guest speaker during the Upland Woman's Club home and garden meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at their clubhouse, 590 N. Second Ave. 
The home and garden section will host a wine and cheese tasting.
Reservations must be made by Sunday.
The cost is $5 for nonmembers.

Hungry?

The Upland Highland Regiment Boosters will host a "Food Truck Frenzy" from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 18 at Cable Airport, 1749 W. 13th St. in Upland.

Attendees will enjoy a day of food, entertainment, vendors, a fun zone and music.

Entry is $5. Kids under 5 years old can enter for free.

Dale Bros. Brewery of Upland will have a beer garden.

There will also be numerous food trucks.

Dominica Greene of Upland was recently named as a YoungArts Honorable Mention Award Winner in Modern Dance.

The Los Angeles High School of the Arts student was chosen from more than 5,000 applicants in nine disciplines in the visual, literary and performing arts.

Greene is one of 174 Honorable Mention winners, selected in a blind adjudication process from a pool representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia as well as all U.S. territories.

Greene will receive a monetary award and join the ranks of 16,000 YoungArts alumni, including multimedia artist Doug Aitken, actors Vanessa Williams, Raul Esparza and Kerry Washington as well as musicians Nicki Minaj and Chris Young.

YoungArts is the core program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.



Rancho Cucamonga Women's Connection is having it's "Love is in the air" buffet luncheon from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at Upland Hills Country Club, 1231 E. 16th St.

There will be a fashion show featuring Jockey "Person to Person" comfortable, chic and versatile fashions by Cheryl Sites-Halett.

Diane Jackson of Rancho Cucamonga will sing love songs.

Dawn Maxwell, writer, business woman and mother, will speak on "what to do when life gives you the opposite of your desires."

The Rancho Cucamonga Women's Connection is sponsored by Stonecroft Ministries.

The Ole Skool Supreme Dance Team will hold auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Prime Time Dance Studio at 775 N. Central Ave., Upland.

The Dance Team is an ensemble of women ranging from 40 to 60 years old who dance to "ole school" music using the most popular dance moves with a hip hop twist.

Women who audition for the team must be over 40 years old, be in good physical shape, be able to pick up choreography and perform a "mean" freestyle as well as know dance moves and music of the 1970's and 1980's.

The team is the premier performer of the Women's National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Sparks at the Staples Center.

Applicants must provide a headshot, resume and completed application.

They must be able to show proof of age as well as bring their own towel and water.

Upland Woman's Club hosting tea

The Upland Woman's Club will meet for tea at 1 p.m. Jan. 24 at their clubhouse, 590 N. 2nd Ave.

The scheduled program is "Guide dogs for the blind," presented by Ron Chrisman.

The Club meets the fourth Tuesday of the month for tea.
