The Ole Skool Supreme Dance Team will hold auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Prime Time Dance Studio at 775 N. Central Ave., Upland.

The Dance Team is an ensemble of women ranging from 40 to 60 years old who dance to "ole school" music using the most popular dance moves with a hip hop twist.

Women who audition for the team must be over 40 years old, be in good physical shape, be able to pick up choreography and perform a "mean" freestyle as well as know dance moves and music of the 1970's and 1980's.

The team is the premier performer of the Women's National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Sparks at the Staples Center.

Applicants must provide a headshot, resume and completed application.

They must be able to show proof of age as well as bring their own towel and water.

Several girls with Baldy View Gymnastics in Upland will be heading to the Junior Olympic State Championship later this week.

The girls will be competing Nov. 18-20 in San Diego.

They are:

Sage Overoye in level 6

Melanie Matthews in level 5

Ruby Berke, Delaram Sadaghdar, Faith Pohl and Kayleigh Pherigo in level 4

The level 3 team performed Sunday in the first ever Southern California Level 3 Championships in Fountain Valley.

The level 3 team includes Amethyst Miller and Anezka Boyle.

Baldy View Gymnastics is at 916 Monte Vista Ave. in Upland.

The Tour de Foothills has added a Kid's Ride to their annual event.

Through Kids Ride, 50 to 100 helmets will be given away to underprivileged children in the community. They can also receive free bike repairs.

Kids Ride will be held in conjunction with the Tour de Foothills from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 in Memorial Park, 1100 E. Foothill Blvd.

Kids Ride is sponsored by Rei in Rancho Cucamonga and Upland Christian Academy in Rancho Cucamonga.

Kids will also be taught skills they need in order to be better cyclists.

Bicyclists ages 5-12 are invited to attend.

The event is made up of a series of stations dealing with an important aspect of safe cycling.

Participants will have their bicycles inspected and will learn about and practice bicycle handling skills.

Parents are invited to participate as well.

Upland High School Aquatics is holding a Christmas Tree fund raiser to help suport their coaching, transportation and other related necessities.

The proceeds will go to the boys and girls water polo, swim and dive teams.

The Christmas trees are from Oregon and can be ordered through Nov. 4.

Pick up will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at Upland High School, 565 W. 11th St.

The United Elite Allstar Cheer is holding a cut-a-thon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Studio M Salon, 378 N. 2nd Ave. in Upland.

All proceeds will benefit the cheerleaders.

Prices are $15 for men and children and $25 for women, including blow dry and style.

No appointment is necessary.

The Celtic Hoops girls soccer team recently played in the State Games of America in San Diego.


The girls, 6-years-old and under, played the games August 6-7 at the Olympic Training Facility in Chula Vista.


In pool play, the team won one game and tied for two games. In the finals, they beat Juventus 4-0 to capture Gold.


In the final game of pool play, the Hoops were down 3-0 at half time. They needed to win or tie to make the finals. The team scored three goals in the second half to tie the game and move on to play for gold.


The team qualified for the State Games by placing 2nd place in the California State Games 2010. Every four years one city is selected to host the State Games of America, said Farzad Yektafar, the team's coach.


More than 900 athletes completed in the games. Opening ceremonies were held at Qualcomm Stadium with the Navy Leap Frog team parachuting in.

Sign-ups for The Challengers bowling team in Upland have begun.

The team, for special needs youth and adults, will starting blowing Sept. 10 for 10 weeks, ending Nov. 12.

Many people sign up for the league, so organizers ask those who wish to participate sign up as soon as possible.

Funding will be available to anyone who needs it.

The Upland Hilltopper 8U All Star Team recently finished the State Championship in Lancaster.

The team played four games from July 15-17. They beat El Rio, but lost to Rancho Palos Verdes, San Clemente and Diamond Bar.

They competed in the Eastern District Championship in Beaumont from July 1-3.

They beat Beaumont, Lake Elsinore and San Dimas, but ultimately lost to Jurupa in the Sunday championship.

The 8U team advanced further than any other Upland team. The Upland 12U team qualified for the state championships, placing third in the district. The Upland 14U qualified placing fourth.

Olson Grubb did not want any gifts for his birthday.


Instead, the Upland 8-year-old, asked his friends and family to make a donation to the 


Upland Police Department Youth Scholarship Fund.


The Foundation is a non-profit organization that sponsors youth activities, specialized officer training and hi-tech equipment for the city of Upland.


Grubb plays baseball and wanted to help other kids who could not afford it.


Grubb and his birthday party guests played baseball and had cake and ice cream. He was able to raise $225 in scholarship money for children to play sports through the Police fund.

The Upland Hurricanes Junior All American Youth Football and Cheer is having sign-ups from 10:30 a.m. to 5p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Red Devil Pizza at 907 W. Foothill Blvd.

Registration is $180.

Football sign ups are for children ages 7-14. Cheer sign ups are for children ages 5-14.

Saturday games are played at Upland High School. All games are played as a league.

The following documents must be presented at the time of registration:

  • a completed online registration package 2011

  • players need to be present for weigh-in

  • original birth certificate for the player/cheerleader and a copy for age verification

  • end of the year report card and a copy. A grade point average of 2.0 or "S" rating is required to participate

  • a utlility bill and a copy for residence verification

  • two wallet size current photos of the child's face
