Instant Eligibility

Offensive guard Tyler Krieg started the past two seasons at Duke. But he could start for California next season without having to sit out a year. Krieg is taking advantage of a controversial new rule that allows transfers who completed their undergraduate degrees to finish their eligibility immediately at another school where they are accepted to pursue an advanced degree.
So Krieg, all-ACC academic team member, fills a huge hole for Cal, which lost three starters on its offensive line. The new rule went into effect last month.
Theoretically, USC wide receiver Chris McFoy and fullback Brandon Hancock would be candidates to transfer without sitting out a season, under the new rule.
