Arena Delayed

The opening of the Galen Center is now scheduled for mid-September. Originally scheduled for August 1 and then pushed back to mid-August, the basketball arenas been delayed because of a strike involving the company that supplied the steel supports for the roof.
As recently as early March, it was hoped the strike would not delay the project but weather also played a role. A womens volleyball tournament scheduled for the arena was moved to the Lyon Center.
USC expects to play South Carolina in its first basketball game at the Galen Center and other home opponents include St. Marys, The Citadel, Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount.
The Trojans are also scheduled to play in an unusual tournament called the Vegas Invitational. The 12-team tournament allows several teams to host two games at their own arena before moving to Las Vegas for two games.
USC does not yet know what teams it will play at home but other teams hosting first-round games include Kansas State, Florida State and New Mexico. Wichita State is also in the tournament, which is scheduled for Dec. 19-23.
