Round Three

Here’s the next round of answers.

Q: How does Leinart feel about Reggie dating Kim Kardashian? Is Leinart going to go out and try to date someone even hotter than that? Maybe that’s what he was doing in Manhattan Beach.
A: My spies say he was at the Shade with 2 bodyguards. Maybe there were potential autograph seekers. I’m not sure how he feels about Bush-Kardashian but I’ll ask him at the next Rose Bowl.

Q: Glena Carroll seems to stay out of Pete’s limelight. What can you tell us about her?
A: She does prefer to stay in the background, which is probably the best thing to do for any coach’s wife. She always been supportive of the players and attends games regularly.

Q: Cmon Scott – spit the news? What’s the story on Lane Kiffen and Chow that you were going to share? You’ve taken us this far down the path, so quit stretching it into a sequel. thanks for the good work.
A: I still need to wait a bit on this. Besides, there is no conflict between Chow, Carroll or Kiffin. How do you do!

Q: At the Rose Bowl game, whenever the camera went to the SC bench, a really fat guy in a dark suit was always in evidence. Was this the fat booster you referred to earlier–if so, how could he get on the sidelines when we have only 5 sideline passes?
A: The fat booster doesn’t wear suits, he dresses like a mock coach, much like the small group allowed on the sidelines that have little actual business being there.

Q: You keep saying there isn’t a “wow” factor to this year’s USC recruiting class, yet according to Rivals, USC has received verbals from three of the top six rated offensive guards in the nation and two of the top six rated offensive tackles in the nation. While those may not be “wow” positions, it still is pretty impressive. My question is do you think the nation’s high school recruiting class may not have as many “wow” players available this year as in previous years(such as when Reggie Bush and Vince Young were in high school)? Also, USC is not going to be recruiting quarterbacks or running backs this year(it doesn’t appear to be necessary) That could be another reason why there isn’t such a Scott Wolf “wow” factor to this class.
A: I don’t think it’s a down year nationally. Terrelle Pryor’s getting a lot more buzz than Vince Young or Reggie Bush did as seniors. Actually those aren’t great examples. Bush was not hyped nearly as much as you might think as a senior. He looked at Washington, Stanford and Notre Dame before making a late switch to USC. But no one knew how good he really would become.
I answered this question in the previous forum. I would never be simple-minded enough to downgrade a class because it didn’t sign a QB or RB. As I said Friday, where’s the Chris Galilppo?

Q: Nike produces three (or so) replica football jerseys for sale in the bookstore and/or retail market each season. Who determines which players/jersey #s are selected? In the Pete Carroll era, which players have been so honored?
A: The athletic dept. decides and this year is going to let fans help decide. I can’t remember the players but it’s always the QB, sometimes the tailback or wide receiver and maybe a defensive player.

Q: What is the common definition of a “booster?”
A: Commonly it’s someone who supports the program in any way, whether going to games, donating money an alumnus, etc. Around USC there’s a group who attend practices and try to ingratiate themselves to the program that are more egregious examples. The fat booster took it to another level by nearly getting an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during the Stanford game.

Q: Has there ever been any serious talk of going to a twelve-team conference (by the Pac-Ten “powers-that-be”)?
A: Yes. Colorado, Texas and BYU were considered. But this was before the formation of the Big 12 Conference and as usual, the Versus Conference waited too long to pull the trigger, so Colorado and Texas became part of that.
