Howard Jones Field has many uses. Some not discussed. For example, one night this week it hosted a soccer game even though the doors were locked. Fence hopping required!
Tomorrow, the field gets two more uses: It will serve as the warm-up area for the track meet at Cromwell Field. And it will then be the site of a rugby game. No fence-hopping required.
I heard the Pac-10 actually spoke to the Alamo Bowl a few years ago but when Builders Square was a sponsor, it requested a Big Ten opponent because of its Midwest locations. The game is currently sponsored by Valero Energy Corp., which has refiniries in Wilmington and Benicia. So there’s a California tie in. But don’t hold your breath.
