Round 7

Harold Lederman scores it 3-3 by rounds so far.

Q: Last season the receiver’s couldn’t catch a cold in the winter. Is Patrick Turner still the number one receiver on the depth chart or is there open competion like between Mitch and Mark?

A: Patrick Turner is No. 1 as spring beckons. But every position is open? Don’t you listen to Pete Carroll? Of course, there is “competition” and then there is “competition.” It doesn’t matter who starts at wide receiver in many ways, as long as you’re part of the main rotation of three receivers. But Turner is going to be a senior, so it figures he will start.

Q: I know you have said that at this time of year, PC and his staff are evaluating recruits, and constantly changing their minds, but can you give us some names of guys we have offered to, but have not yet accepted verbally—-and also give us some names of guys that have been talked about a lot, but not yet been offered?

A: I listed the 15 or so kids that came on the VIP Junior Day. The problem with naming anyone else, is it inevitably leads to, “OK, you’ve named these five, so who are the next five.” But I’ll list more names as recruiting intensifies.

Q: Can you take a moment and tell me about Broderick Green’s time so far at USC. Before injury, was he impressing coaches? Do the coaches think he has a potential to be a #1 or #2 option as far as RBs go?

A: Right before Broderick Green suffered a stress fracture, he enjoyed some extremely impressive practices and a scrimmage. Pete Carroll loved him. I personally believe Green could be in the top two of the rotation next season, but I can’t predict because I never understood how the coaches gave so many carries to Chauncey Washington last season with other backs ready to contribute.
