State track

USC recruit Brian Baucham ran the fastest time in qualifying (37.43) in the 300-meter hurdles last night. Another incoming freshman, Blake Ayles, had the second-best mark in the discus in qualifying (187-05).
USC commit Randall Carroll had the second-fastest time in the 100 meters (10.48). All finals are tonight.

The Happy Manager

Mike Gillespie and UC Irvine are up 6-2 on Oral Roberts in the top of the second inning at Lincoln, Neb.
UPDATED: UC Irvine is up 8-7 in the eighth inning. The Anteaters held on for a 9-7 victory.

Blake Ayles is competing in the shot put tonight at the state track and field championships. He currently has the seventh-best mark in the state (169-07).

Q: Don’t know if this has been asked, but any ideas how many players have played against USC from two different teams? Sam Keller (ASU, Nebraska) comes to mind.

A: I can think of Matt Moore (UCLA, Oregon State) off the top of my head. I’ll let the readers fill in other examples.

Conference Of Champions

The SEC announced revenue figures today. The conference took in $50.6 million from football television, $25.3 million from bowls and $13.7 million from the SEC Football Championship game. And that doesn’t include $11.6 million retained by the institutions participating in bowls.
