We hear that Rodney Guillory, the focus of the controversy involving O.J. Mayo, originally approached UCLA about taking Mayo two years ago. At the time, UCLA already knew (unofficially) it would get Kevin Love.
Our sources tell us UCLA checked with Love, who said he did not want to play with Mayo. That left USC as the next option, because Guillory wanted Mayo in Southern California.
This helps explain Mayo’s arrival a little more than the official story that he wanted to build a program instead of being at an established one.
