Answer Friday!

Let’s try to answer some questions before the game.

Q: About this time last year Rey Rey put a hit on Turner that made him not start the season, and it seems to me that he never quite untracked. Is his situation (tied for starting with Williams) a function of that and his not fulfilling his potential, or is Williams turning out About this time last year Rey Rey put a hit on Turner that made him not start the season, and it seems to me that he never quite untracked. Is his situation (tied for starting with Williams)a function of that and his not fulfilling his potential, or is Williams turning out to just be a better player? Or is he just be a better player?

A: Damian Williams is an impressive player, in the mold of Steve Smith. But Turner needs to seize his final opportunity because he’s been inconsistent the first three years. He needs to be more aggressive and demonstrate he can be a go-to receiver. Since everyone is about the same level in training camp, the coaches felt no need to make a choice here on the depth chart.

Q: I read that Pat Harlow has been hired to coach at San Clemente High School joining three other ex-Trojans. How many former Trojans are currently coaching prep football in California and how many are coaching at the College level?

A: There are so many if I start to list some, I’ll forget some people. If readers want to mention some names, they can do it here.

Q: Is the plan to leave Mr. Versatile Garrett Green at the QB spot, or is he going to be all over the field again. Any chance that he may end up taking Mike McDonald’s spot as holder on the PAT’s?

A: Green will probably stay at the QB spot because USC needs a scout team quarterback and I don’t think Mitch Mustain wants that job. Pete Carroll wants the punter to be the holder, so Greg Woidneck will do it unless there are problems.

Q: It seems as though a lot of football coaches are hesitant to play starters on special team, particularly on kickoff coverage, punt coverage, and kickpff return. What has been Caesar’s approach during his tenure? What players can we expect to see on the field for special teams this year?

A: Pete Carroll’s had Rey Maualuga on kickoff team for years and remember Josh Pinkard tore his knee ligaments on the punt team at Arkansas. The reason he cuts back is to keep starters fresh and not to wear them out during the game.
