This is one of the first pictures I’ve seen with a proper view of what looks like the old Bovard Field. Many of us are too young to ever see this field, which used to be the main athletic field. It was taken by Loomis Dean in 1951 and is part of the recently released Life magazine collection available on Google.

Here’s the first of a week’s worth of bland quotes between Pete Carroll and Norm Chow.
“He’s a really good coach,” Carroll said of Chow. “He’s proven to be one of the great coaches in college football. It’ll be a challenge.
“We’re fellow coaches who had a great time together and he moved on and now he is back. I like stuff like thus. I like going against guys I know.”
Pete Carroll on Texas not making the Big 12 title game.
“That makes no sense to me,” he said. “said. “They’re going to say the other team (Oklahoma) is better when they played head-to-head (and Texas won)?”
Pete Carroll said he was not sure if Malik Jackson would be eligible to play against UCLA. Jackson was ejected from the end of the Notre Dame game.
“I don’t know if it’s an automatic deal or not,” Carroll said.
Pete Carroll on the chances of both USC and UCLA wearing their home uniforms Saturday.
“I don’t know anything about that at this point,” he said. “There’s been no exchange of phone calls. I don’t know anything about that.”’
Quarterback Mark Sanchez was asked last night about his future plans.
“I haven’t even entertained thoughts yet or thought of leaving. It’s so much fun being here. That will affect my decision,” he said.
This is for those who did not ask football questions in the Open Forum.
Mark Sanchez threw 31 passes against Notre Dame. He threw 32 against the Irish last year . . . in the first half.
USC’s fifth, Oklahoma grabs the valued No. 2 spot and Oregon State goes tumbling out of the top 25. Mighty Penn State, the likely bowl opponent, is No. 8.
