Mr. Wolf, I was wondering if you know why USC has not offered a scholarship to WR Ken Stills. Based on the information that I’ve read about this young man is a very solid WR. Thanks.

A: USC is looking at Ken Stills, a 6-1 wide receiver from outside San Diego, but to my knowledge has not yet offered him a scholarship. Arizona offered him last week. I believe he will be one of those players who is invited to camp and will then be offered if he impresses the coaches.

Scott, I have heard that powers that be have been spreading nasty rumors about this blog. Do the rumors have anything to do with Sam Gilbert not knowing that Jordan Cameron is Lenart’s baby-uncle?

A: I was going to make that point in Part 3 of the answers, but declined.

Nathan EXP, PC’s “behaivior” was at the behest of the Sanchez family, who wanted Mark to come back for his senior season. Check it out, Shelly Smith, ESPN.

A: I feel the need to comment on this because we’re now seeing some revisionist history attached to Mark Sanchez’s decision. It is 100 percent true that Sanchez’s family encouraged Pete Carroll to convince him that he was making the wrong decision about going to the NFL. But that was supposed to be done behind the scenes, not during a televised press conference. That was not done with the family’s approval. More to its shock, to be honest. Aside from that, the way the press conference transpired just wasn’t good for the image of the program.

Scott, I know this may seem obvious, but what do you think happened to Mitch Mustain over the past year as he was vying with Mark Sanchez for the #1 quarterback spot and now he is trying to keep up with the other two? Why is he not as much in contention this year, besides the obvious addition of the freshman phenom?

A: Actually, this is an excellent question. The prevailing theory is that Aaron Corp got better with experience and Matt Barkley is a rare physical specimen. Plus you could argue that less reps made it harder for Mustain.
But it’s also true that last year Sanchez won the job relatively easy. I think Mustain is the type of QB who, like Matt Leinart, does better when he is encouraged by his coaches and given confidence boosts. He didn’t really get that in spring.
