USC led No. 1-ranked UC Irvine 5-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning tonight but the Anteaters scored five runs and escaped with a 6-5 thriller in Irvine. That makes former USC coach Mike Gillespie 4-0 against his alma mater.
The Trojans return to action tomorrow night at Cal State Fullerton.

Quote Of The Day

“There is something really special about building your own traditions, your own histories and doing it with a group of guys that you love.”
— USC coach Tim Floyd, April 2

Since then, Daniel Hackett, DeMar DeRozan and Taj Gibson turned pro. Solomon Hill signed with Arizona. Donte Smith is being encouraged to transfer to a Division II school while Mamadou Diarra was encouraged to play pro basketball in France. And Renardo Sidney is now suddenly no longer being recruited, according to USC sources.

How many guys would leave if Floyd didn’t “love” the group?

King Kiper, Part 2

ESPN analyst Mel Kiper was not kind today in his analysis of the Dolphins selecting Patrick Turner.
“Patrick Turner, personally I didn’t think he’d get drafted and if he did it’d be late. … He’s big, comes out of a great program, expected to be the next big receiver out of USC, but turned out to be very average. … I thought he was a short immediate threat, but average in a lot of categories.”
