Tale Of Two Trophies

When Oregon’s men’s track team won the Pac-10 title in Eugene three weeks ago, the public-address announcer informed the home crowd the Ducks won before the meet officially ended and a trophy was present to the champions.
When USC’s men’s track team won the NCAA West Regional title in Eugene last week, the PA announcer waited for the conclusion of the pole vault, nearly an hour after the Trojans actually clinched the title, by which time most of the crowd departed. And there was no trophy presentation.
“We had our own celebration on the track,” USC sprinter Ahmad Rashad said.
