Answer Monday! (Part 4)

More football questions! And why not? I mean, seriously, USC can do whatever it wants in basketball because it doesn’t need to make money with Pete Carroll carrying the load financially with his football program.

HI SCOTT
Last week I didn’t ask my question clearly, but reader DAVID ALLEN picked it up. What I meant to ask was ” Could you give us some color, flavor, background, and your opinion on the punter for Fall 2010, MATT DARR?” Thanx.

A: Now I got it. Matt Darr is quite a prospect. He is big (6-2, 215), sort of in the David Buehler mold. Chris Sailer, who I covered at Notre Dame High School, runs kicking camps and has Darr as his No. 1 punter. What’s convincing about his ability is that he was actually offered a scholarship in the first place. USC has not had a punter signed a punter to a scholarship since Tom Malone. So Pete Carroll, who is generally cautious with giving punter’s a scholarship before they arrive, was convinced early. I would say it’s likely he will be the punter in 2010 unless Jake Harfman has a great season this year.

HI WOLFIE:
I heard we had a linemans’ camp last Sunday. How did it go for the Trojans in the way of possible prospects and committs? Thanx in advance as always.

A: The camp was a little light on real prospects, so it was more of a general participation camp for high school kids. The prospects will be a the Rising Stars camp, which is Tuesday and Wednesday.
