USC BCS championship trophy broke, http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/USC-s-damaged-BCS-trophy-is-probably-not-an-om?urn=ncaaf,183371.

What was the reaction of Pete Carroll? What is the reaction of the players and your own?

A: The trophy has not been damaged. The crystal football was knocked off the stand. It happens two or three times a year. Michael Morgan knocked it off one year by accident. So really there’s been no reaction for those who are at Heritage Hall daily.

How much of a drop-off do you expect from the D-Line due to Armond Armstead being out for an extended period of time?

A: It depends on how the defense changes from being oversized on the end to merely normal sized. I think Malik Jackson’s been ready to assume a starting spot so I don’t think there’s a dropoff. USC’s defense will merely look more conventional than the unique front Pete Carroll envisioned with Armstead.

I keep hearing how intense practices are but the Coliseum scrimmage seemed pretty laid back. Was the scrimmage as intense as practices and I was just sitting too far back to notice?

A: The scrimmage is more like a mock game. So there are breaks and the things tend to go slower than in a real practice. Remember for years that Pete Carroll’s players say they look forward to games because they are easier than practices.
Games just have less flow to them because of the breaks involved.
