Coliseum `Improvements’

In case you do not notice much change, here is what is different about the Coliseum this year:
A second elevator is being built that should be operational in late September.
The circular ticket booths near Gates 4-5 were torn down to create more space.
The tunnel entrances that are inside the stadium were painted red.
Exterior banners will be installed by Saturday.
Concessions will feature point of sale registers, which will mean there will now be one line and customers will go to the next available register, which is supposed to speed up the process.
The USC bookstore will now sell its merchandise inside the Coliseum once the game begins instead of only outside as in past seasons.

What Would Floyd Do?

We wrote last week that USC is no longer recruiting point guard Ryan Boatright, who committed three years old when he was 13-years-old.
So what would happen if Tim Floyd were still the Trojans’ coach? Would he have taken Boatright, who remained committed until Floyd resigned?
More likely, Floyd would have done what he did with several recruits who committed in the past (Andre McFarland, Quinton Watkins) and quietly made it clear he wanted to go in another direction.

Getting Defensive

When the quarterback position was settled last week, a defensive starter said, “it doesn’t really matter who plays if we don’t let the other team score.”
Which leads to the question: Can USC’s defense possibly be as dominant as last season?
Thoughts?

Quote Of The Day

From today’s story in the Daily News:

“All the quarterbacks have to stop trying too hard. That’s what kept (Mark) Sanchez down for so long and he couldn’t catch John David (Booty) because of it.”

— USC coach Pete Carroll
