Answer Tuesday! (Part 5)

Some questions around the NFL draft in this segment.

Wolfie, did you notice on the NFL.com “Draft Tracker” that if you sort by school, they have USC listed as Southern Cal? They must not have gotten the memo.

A: Damn NFL.com. And they employ people from USC! Another outrage.

Q: MRSAM said:
What is your reaction to the USC Trojans being drafted in the NFL Draft this year compared to previous years? There were no first round picks and only seven draft picks, and many players were undrafted.

A: Well, it confirms that the talent level was not as good last season as previous years and helps explain the dropoff in performance. I think it also shows some recruiting decisions were not too good. A part of me believes that one reason Pete Carroll left (aside from wanting one more crack at the NFL) was that he recognized this dropoff in talent within the program and didn’t want to rebuild.

  1. USC was tied for second with 7 players drafted. Florida was first with 9. Yeah, what a terrible draft for USC.

Hey sped, how was UCLA’s draft? hahaha Lets look at Pac-10 draft picks from 2006-2010:

    **USC: 44**
    Cal: 19
    Ore: 19
    ASU: 15
    Ariz: 14
    OSU: 14
    Stan: 10
    **UCLA: 10**
    Wash: 5
    WSU: 5

    UCLA should be embarrassed.

  2. Once again sped knows nothing, his bRuins, 10 players in 5 years, now that’s embarrassing!

  3. spud…get your ass back to that seat in the corner, put that dunce cap back on, face the wall and get back to eating your buggars you moron!
    Fight On

  4. From ESPN:
    http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/9910/clausen-sets-new-record-in-kiper-fall

ESPNs Stats & Informations Keith Hawkins passed along a very interesting post-draft note. Keith went back and did the homework on players Mel Kiper Jr. had ranked in his top five that werent taken in the top five.

Since 1999, 44 of the 60 players Kiper ranked in his top five were taken in the top five picks. Thats a 73.3 percent success rate and 55 of Kipers top five were taken among the top 10 picks. Thats 91.6 percent.

So Kipers usually right. But what about the few that hes been wrong on? Well, Keith provides us with a chart of the five guys that have fallen the furthest from Kipers top five and the winner, who landed in the NFC South, easily set a new record.
    Fallen down Kiper’s board
Year Player Kiper rank Actual spot
    2010 Jimmy Clausen 4th 48th
    2007 Brady Quinn 5th 22nd
    2002 Albert Haynesworth 4th 15th
    2001 Kenyatta Walker 4th 14th
    2004 Ben Roethlisberger 5th 11th
