A little over a month ago I asked about Coliseum renovations. You indicated that the schedule of renovations was in flux. Has there been a decision on what renovations will happen prior to September?

A: I did not notice any changes when I was at the Coliseum for Saturday’s spring game, however, I am going to speak to someone from the stadium this week to see what they might be planning for this summer to upgrade. There certainly remains a lot they could fix.

Scott, based on what has been seen & said since the changeover of the football coaching staff, The team’s overall talent the last 2-years had dropped due to recruiting and the coaching. Could PC have brought in better coaches with the payroll he had? Could he have tried harder in developing his underclassmen players to fill the departing players in addition? It seems to me he was no longer interested in doing what was necessary in keeping this program on a top level. I find it not hard to imagine his talking to NFL teams as he did was a red flag for Mike Garrett, who thought throwing more money at PC would do the trick (when PC said he only had so much time to put in the energy to coach a championship program). Surely Garrett, once he found out the NCAA was snopping around due to PC getting sloppy with his duties as well as still looking for that situation with an NFL team to quickly bolt was in effect, asleep at the wheel.

A: I definitely think the staff could have been better. An example is the hiring of Jeremy Bates last year as offensive coordinator. USC could have done much better. Of course he is the Seahawks’ problem now. But I also agree with something you touched upon. Was there a dropoff in recruiting evaluation the last few years? You could almost make a case that things deteriorated after Lane Kiffin was no longer the recruiting coordinator. Things certainly dropped off and I’d bet that’s one area we’ll see an upgrade with Kiffin back and Ed Orgeron acting as the recruiting coordinator now.

  1. Scott –

Have you heard anything about where the Wear brothers are planning on transferring to?

  2. I was at the Trojan Huddle, and I saw what looked like a couple of new sections of metal seating being installed. Is this a seating expansion, or something temporary?
