Go See Cal

Cal will announce tomorrow that it will play its home games in 2011 at AT&T Park. USC plays at Cal in 2011, which is fortunate because the baseball stadum is superior to Cal’s Memorial Stadium for parking and amenities. It will mean, however, that less tickets are likely to be available for USC fans.

  1. Wouldn’t the Raiders and A’s stadium be much closer to Berkley?

  2. Another article said Cal “picked” AT&T over the Black Hole and Candlestick. Keep in mind the Black Hole has a lot going on with the A’s playing through September…and longer if they make a playoff run.

Nevertheless, Pac Bell seems like the worst place. Does this mean the stadium will be configured with both benches on one sideline like the Nut Bowl?

  3. BB, they will also have conflicts with the Giants at Pac Bell Park (I lived in the Bay Area for 20 years and was a season ticket holder for many so I refused to call it SBC or AT&T), especially if they make the post season, which seems like a good possibility with their pitching staff.

Candlestick is a GD dump, and I’m sure they couldn’t work out a deal with the A’s and Raiders. Stanford is out of the question, so seemingly Pac Bell was their only option. The surprising thing is that the Giants agreed.

That park holds ~37k for baseball, and LESS for football due to the configuration. I imagine they will have both teams on the same sideline unless they can come up with a new set up. The NE end zone is the warning track! That will be a strange season, but the one time I went to a game there (yes the nut bowl) it was kind of cool. Bought tickets in the club section and enjoyed the action inside while it was pouring rain out.
