Defensive Future

As USC ended spring practice, only three seniors are starters (Shareece Wright, Malcolm Smith, Michael Morgan) and one of them (Morgan) could have Chris Galippo or Devon Kennard sharing time at his spot. That means the top recruiting priority in the next 12 months should be finding a weakside linebacker, unless Hayes Pullard is deemed the future at the spot.

Armond Armstead* Jr. Opponents will not like blocking a 300-pound end. Malik Jackson, Jr.
DT Jurrell Casey* Jr. Key reason the defensive line is Trojans’ best unit. Hebron Fangupo, Jr.
DT DaJohn Harris Jr. Surprise of spring must replace injured Christian Tupou. Derek Simmons, Sr.
DE Nick Perry So. Will likely rotate with Horton, who starts in nickel formation. Wes Horton, So.
LB Malcolm Smith* Sr. Up-and-down junior season but made 15 tackles against UCLA. Shane Horton, Jr.
LB Chris Galippo* Jr. No one would be surprised if Kennard starts or shares spot. Devon Kennard, So.
LB Michael Morgan* Sr. A little light (225 pounds) so durability is an issue. Marquis Simmons, Fr.
CB Shareece Wright Sr. One of nation’s best returns after being ineligible. Brian Baucham, So.
CB Torin Harris Fr. A major question mark for the defense next season. T.J. Bryant, Jr.
SS Jawanza Starling So. McAllister might start but recovering from hip surgery. Drew McAllister, Jr.
FS T.J. McDonald So. Athletic and tall enough to replace Taylor Mays. Byron Moore, Fr.

  1. Time for some of these 4 star recruits to step up and start producing like Starling and McDonald.

  2. You said it, Wolf. I would feel a lot better about the team’s future if we grab a 5 star linebacker or two this recruiting season.
