Street Closure

If you are going to USC, the intersection of Flower Street and Exposition Boulevard will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday through 9 p.m. June 6.
Just one more inconvenience on Exposition Blvd., which has been construction free about three of the past 15 years.

Morning Buzz

USC was a woeful 38th in last month’s Directors’ Cup standings, but with NCAA titles in women’s water polo and men’s tennis, the Trojans gained 200 points and could be in the top 15 with more than five sports awarding national titles in June.

First Rey Maualuga entered an alcohol-rehab center. Then Brian Cushing tested positive for steroids. Now Kevin Ellison was arrested with 100 pills of Vicodin in his car. The 2009 NFL draft class is going through a rough stretch. I texted one member of it today to ask who was next?

Get Together

OK, it’s time to have that long overdue get together. It will probably be at Nadine’s Irish Pub in Sunset Beach. I’m polling now for dates in either the second or third week of June, so fire away.

UC Irvine plays at USC tonight at 7:15 p.m. In one corner, you have Irvine coach Mike Gillespie, who is 121-51 in three seasons. And in the other corner, is Trojans coach Chad Kreuter, who is 108-116 in the same span.
