  1. Reggie Bush and his parents, no one else. If Reggie doesn’t get the house this never happens.

  2. Congrats UCLA… kind of like waiting for your friend to break up with a girl you like, now you guys can pick up some of our recruits! Sloppy seconds for everyone!!!

I think the Bruins total number of commits for the upcoming year should be a whopping 1 by weeks end! RN was such a great pickup……

  3. 1. Garrett (not long for USC)
    2. Carroll (left just in time)
    3. Sample (left just in time)

  4. Held accountable by whom?

Doesn’t the SC fan base think it’s athletic program did nothing wrong, and this is all some unfair vendetta?

  5. I have no problem with the penalties if it can be proved that people at SC knew what Bush and his family were doing. If not, this is a joke. And let’s get Reggie’s jersey down from the Coliseum.

  7. In a word, Stu, no. Garrett has to be held accountable; fair to him or not, all of this mess happened under his watch. He should take full responsibility and resign, if he isn’t canned first. This is an embarrassing, shameful chapter of the athletic program. This is going to cost the University in the overall credibility department, it is going to cost it support from some alumni, it is going to cost it tons of revenue, it is going to cost it pride. Clean house.

  8. No one can possibly be blamed because no one at usc will ever, ever admit anyone on the football side of things did anything wrong. How can you blame someone if you can’t see the wrongdoing?

Actually Charlie, it’s more like lusting after your friends girl until you find out she gave him herpes.

    Enjoy your herpes.

  10. MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT! MIKE GARRETT!

  11. bearB3: not quite…if trOJies came clean when the evidence came out (how many yrs ago?) and self imposed some sanctions (a few schollies, recruiting restrictions) they would’ve left this in their rear view mirror a few years ago.

We all gotta pay the piper…when you delay paying the tax man, it gets far uglier as the years roll by.

  12. Marky:

With a thoughtful reply like that, are you sure you’re really a Trojan?

  13. I think SC will suck it up and play on. This will be tough on recruiting for awhile but let’s face it SC plays a tough schedule, their players are looked at for the NFL draft and they get money from other conference teams going to bowl games. The PAC 10 suffers because SC is a big bowl draw unlike UCLA. So let’s get it out and let’s move on and I think Kiffin and company will get it done. The NCAA has held the spot light way too long dangling this carrot. If Bush is dirty take his jersey down but whatever move on to the future and let’s stop the hand ringing. Man up Trojans and FIGHT ON!

  14. All of a sudden college football seems highly worth ditching.

Nebraska headed to the Big “10”? My God, had you told me that 10 years ago I would think apocalypse for the sport arrived. And then the NCAA gets a complex about the BUSH situation. Wrong time for this fellas. Who is policing this sport? Gonna be grotesque to look at in about five years at this rate.

  15. USC FOOTBALL will never blame itself because nothing exists outside of itself. USC (including the administration, students, fans, etc,) has always been unable to accurately perceive how the rest of the world views it. Most of us love, and take pride in our schools’ academics, contibutions to society, and values like honesty, character and class. A winning foortball program is great, but at what cost? The fact is that, to everyone other than those within the USC cocoon, USC equates to “winning at all costs”, cheating, dishonesty, lying to recruits, inferior academics, using its athletes for only its own purposes and doing everything and anything for the sake of its football program. This isn’t just Bush and Mayo. The countless arrests and convictions, the academic fraud, Carroll promising to “take care of it within the program”, Orgeron telling Tennessee freshman not to go to class on the first day of school so he could recruit them, Kiffin blatantly lying to recruits: THIS IS JUST USC. We all accept it. And USC knows it will get away with most of it without consequences. What USC fails to understand is that there are consequences—the rest of us see a “university” we would all be ashamed to call our own.

  16. Can’t we just go back to the good old days when players got in fights, did drugs, drove other people’s cars and claimed to own the police?

  17. Get ready, it’s Pac 10 week in the comments section, here comes a lot of hate.

This SC fan’s perspective is to wait and read the report. The penalties make me think the NCAA found knowledge of what Bush allegedly did within the football staff and/or the athletic dept. And if that’s the case then it the AD’s office should be nuked, from Garrett on down because like Watergate, it isn’t so much the crime as the coverup.

Ultimately, the responsibility for this rests with Bush and his family, they put their personal greed (allegedly)ahead of the program that helped him achieve his fame. They took a short term benefit (he was going to get paid by the NFL eventually) over long term legacy.

  18. Who to blame? Hummmmm? Let’s see. REALLY? Unless you have had your head under a boulder (by the way welcome to the Pac 16 CU) you have no clue on what day it is or where to lay the well deserved blame for this fiasco. First and foremost it is at the feet of REGGIE BUSH. He wasn’t some snot nosed HS freshman under his parents thumb he was a MAN making deci$ion$ that would impact his life for the rest of his life. Secondly, his parents. If you live where I live you are all too aware of what type folks they are. You also understand that some people will NEVER have ANY class regardless of how much they $ell their $oul$ for in an attempt to move up to a better life that they felt they were entitled to having, regardless of who they trample on the way up. Third, Mike Garrett for either being too stupid to think that he didn’t need to hold coaches and athletes accountable at an NCAA institution (NEWS FLASH MR GARRETT: THIS IS NOT THE NFL OR NBA, THESE ARE COLLEGE STUDENTS AND YOU HAVE TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE) or just to lazy to want to earn his salary. Forth, Coach Pete Carroll and his staff. No matter what, the head coach and his staff have got to know what is going on with their players.

Funny how all of this comes out to coincide with the formation of the new “PAC 16”! Just in time for USC to allow the rest of the “Pathetic 9” to gain some recruitting ground and then have SC available to make them all money when they become bowl eligable in 2012, the year the SC bowl ban would be lifted and the same year the new “Pac 16” starts.

Regardless of the severity of the load about to be lowerd onto Tommy’s shoulders the saddest part to me in all of this is the complete lack of class that Reggie Bush emits with regards to having any concern for the ramifications his selfish, greedy, pathetic acts have levied onto the institution, student body & fan base of USC itself.

CONGRATULATIONS REGGIE BUSH! YOU HAVE EARNED YOUR PLACE RIGHT BESIDE OJ SIMPSON AS A BLIGHT ONTO THE GREAT INSTITUION OF USC.

  19. STANFORD 91!! LOL! You are STANFORD! One goes to Stanford driven by ONE underlying factor: the desire to make big bank with your degree. I wonder how many academic scandals go unnoticed & unreported related to the extreme measures students go to in order to grab more GPA at Stanford so they can throw their degree out to the world for sake of more money?

By the way, Stanfords APR score dropped from last yer to this year…

    PAC 10 scores for 2010
    Stanford, 976
    Cal, 969
    USC, 965
    UCLA, 953
    Washington, 948
    Oregon State, 947
    Arizona State, 945
    Oregon, 942
    Arizona, 940
    WSU, 918

gee….Stanfords score is like….1.1% higher than USC’s! And, at this rate CAL will easily overtake Stanford next year.

  20. Take a look at the following statements made by Stanford 91…

“Most of us love, and take pride in our schools’ academics, contibutions to society, and values like honesty, character and class. A winning foortball program is great, but at what cost?”

“USC (including the administration, students, fans, etc,) has always been unable to accurately perceive how the rest of the world views it.”

“And USC knows it will get away with most of it without consequences.”

Nice blanket statements big man. You try to make an articulate point about the fine perspective Stanford shows, then you throw all students and faculty at USC under the bus for FOOTBALL shortcomings. Probably have never set foot on campus there, never seen the handfuls of acclaimed libraries, actually would be surprised if you ever got off the 110 freeway to go to the Coliseum when you noticed there was poverty in this country.

The DUI your women’s hoops player recently received must mean every Cardinal athlete in the “Stanford cocoon” is a malcontent who fraudulently sell themselves as beacons for society.

  21. My my, must have hit a nerve.

But apparently different nerves. In the case of “datrout”, only an intelligence challenged USC fan could attempt to criticize Stanford by alleging imaginary “academic scandals” without the slightest evidence and then cite Stanford’s number one APR score as proof of what???

As for “Diamond”, my compliments. Thank you for at least pointing out that not all USC students, administrators, fans, etc. fall into the dishonest, win-at-all-costs “mentality”. You are right. I would just hope to see more of what you cite. However, your problem, judging from USC reactions, comments, blogs, recruiting sites, etc. is almost a complete absence of the integrity and class that must exist somewhere within the USC community. It’s not my job to bring USC’s commendable qualities to the forefront especially given the difficulty finding them.

  22. STANFORD 91! Again…LOL! Hey, wait…didn’t TIGER WOODS go to STANFORD? UH,…YEAH, HE DID! NICE REDWOODY! Thats your iconic sports figure in the HISTORY of STANFORD! He’s it. No mas…

You mix football (sports) and academics in the same rant in a pathetic attempt to make yourself feel better about going to a school that sees half its student body run to class when they see “SAT” affixed to a football date and time…(it means the game is on SATurday!). Tell your cronies they don’t have to retake the S-A-T again. K,…. sparkey ; )

The really great thing is that we get to settle it on the field after all. And, all the GPA in the world isn’t going to help you you when it is your time to come get’s some azz whippen.

  23. Blame Reggie Bush and his parents? Are you kidding me? Reggie and his folks had the ultimate responsibility for the character of the USC football program? Since when?

Pete Carroll and Mike Garrett knew what was going on and merely distanced themselves through intermediaries. What other college program obliterated the barriers between agents and players and coaches the way USC did?

USC got the best recruits because like Miami they took on the appearance of the surest route to the NFL. Add to that close proximity to the film and recording industry where household brands are manufactured – the glamorous athletes mingling with all the other glamorous “performers”.

The pathetic thing is that with all its natural advantages, a powerful prestigious institution like USC let really small men like Garrett and Carroll corrupt a historic football program. USC has so much going for it without bending the rules. Bill Snyder won at K State for Lord’s sake.

Start the blame where it truly belongs – “Doctor” Steven Sample had no judgment in finding men of character to run the storied USC sports program. Does anyone out there think Mike Garrett could run a 7Eleven without help. Is there a more untalented AD in Division 1? The Buckeyes love Archie Griffin but noone in Columbus ever considered him for anything but halftime entertainment for the alums.

Wait till you all see the results of letting the vaunted Pete Carroll compete on a level playing field. He had the best organization in sports at New England and the Patriots got a little worse every year he was there. Because he did not have full control? Walsh and Bellichek did great in the same setting.

Lane Kiffin is not ready for this assignment. USC needed an adult to reorganize its national class football program. USC football does not need to bend the rules to win. USC is not a place where people need to cheat to win. USC is an elite university where excellence is commonplace.

The blame is on Sample who dances away. The disgrace of cheating to win will fall hard on the USC football community. A sterling reputation takes decades to build and great men like John McKay and John Robinson to build it. It should have never been entrusted to a men like Mike Garrett and Pete Carroll. Thanks Dr. Sample.

  24. Apparently the definition of terminal stupidity is “datrout” moving his “argument” to the football field. What was that score last year?????
