Baxter Reportedly Illegally Contacted

ESPN reports that USC tailback Dillon Baxter was illegally contacted by Washington, Oregon, Florida, Fresno State and Alabama, according to the school’s compliance office.
“In a letter written by USC director of compliance Matt Billings to Pac-10 Associate Commissioner for Governance and Enforcement Ron Barker, Florida, Washington, Oregon, Fresno State and Alabama allegedly contacted Baxter.
“The letter states in part: `I just met with [Baxter] and he told me that he received phone calls from five institutions [June 10th]. All of the institutions asked if he was interested in transferring from USC due to the NCAA decision. Would you please speak with these schools to remind them they cannot speak to this student athlete?’ ”

If true, this means that two of Lane Kiffin’s friends, Washington’s Steve Sarkisian and Fresno State’s Pat Hill, tried to steal his tailback.

  1. it is so nice to see that the sc compliance department is doing its job and so carefully monitoring the football program. at some schools the compliance department is sadly negligent and that sometimes can lead to investigations and, if serious enough, ncaa sanctions. thank goodness sc will never have problems like this.

  5. either these coaches didn’t know the rules or they intentionally broke the rules. either the way, since the NCAA is penalizing schools for “not knowing”… all 5 schools should get a 1 year bowl ban and a loss of 15 scholarships over 3 years

  6. This is one of two things, it is either $c propaganda to take off some heat or someone not affiliated with any of the named institutions is playing games.

    No way any of these schools actually tried to contact Baxter, especially since he has already enrolled.

    It is funny though that $c fans are jumping on this “story” since this is EXACTLY what the Ogre was accused of doing with the Tennessee recruits when Lame and his crew jumped ship (except that THEY hadn’t actually enrolled), at least they didn’t use $c’s phones to make the calls (or did they?..hmm?)

  7. Kiffen is a dope.

    Alabama and Florida 2 of his main rivalries at the SEC and Oregon and Wash in the Pac 10 and of course Fresno State, his alm mater where he got his degree in liesure management. I think it was the only schools he could actually name. Fl, Oregon, Wash and Ala are loaded at RB, why would they go after an enrolled player. Does he have the phone records? Nope I could see them going after Henderson, Woods or a few of the non-enrolled players. Kiffen will treble the punishment before he is done.

  8. Lame used to call these minor infractions because he had so many of them.The shoe is on the other foot now.Lie ON!

  9. I think they were just returning the calls made to already-spoken-for recruits by Ed O as he and Lame left Tennessee.

  10. he probably just got calls from friends, fans and boosters and those types

    let the paranoia begin
