Recruiting Week

USC’s Rising Stars camp this week was interesting for who showed . . . and who did not.
Quarterback Cody Kessler of Bakersfiled enjoyed a strong camp but quarterback Max Wittek only showed for one session, which will only increase speculation that Wittek is wavering on his commitment.
Tailback Kenny Hilliard, who already committed to LSU, participated in the camp and did not disappoint. Wide receiver Victor Blackwell, already committed to USC, was the top receiver of the camp.
Defensive tackle Antwaun Woods and offensive lineman Marcus Martin of Crenshaw, who already committed to USC, did not attend the camp.

  1. How many quarterbacks do most schools keep on scholarship? Matt Barkley will be here at least two (and probably three years if he wants a bowl game) and Jesse Scroggins even longer. With Cody Kessler, we’ll be three deep through the sanctions.

  2. Are writing off Wittek already? “If” he stays that makes four of a kind!

  3. odds Matt Barkley stays 4 years if he’s anywhere as good as he thinks he is < than odds SC is able to turn clock back to a time where Sam Gilbert reference is relevant. Sanction On!

  4. I’ve never heard any comments about Matt Barkley having a huge ego but if that’s the case then there’s an even greater chance that he will stay all four years. I’m sure he would love to win a National Championship.

And Papa Sam references will be relevant as long as there are baby bruins who actually believe ucla basketball championships were earned and not bought.

  5. Dear Son of Sam…
Last time I checked…UCLA still Champs for ALL THOSE YEARS…NCAA (heard or them?) never Sanctioned UCLA…Again last time I checked…YOU Slippery sleaze bags were were up to your necks in CRAP w/The NCAA…probation, lost scholarships, and are currently on DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION…
One thing for sure….LAME is only going to dig a deeper hole..He’s sleazier than Cheatey,…track record proves it (The Dillon Baxter episode was a JOKE, right?)
BTW…whats the latest w/Henderson? Going, going, gone?
Wittek, Henderson and 2 more! Who will they be?
Maybe NOBS will lend his JET so you guys can salvage your recruiting “class”.

  6. “Wiittek wavering on commitment” can be translated as “Wittek being run off by Kiffin” …

Wittek is a good high school player who is still developing his skills.

His arm strength and accuracy are not close to other Class of 2011 QB’s. Wittek appears to be a victim of pending SC scholarship reductions. With less full rides SC might not be able to take a risk on a ‘project’ like Wittek.

lane Kiffin should beware of Steve Clarkson clients. Clarkson’s agenda is not USC’s agenda. Clarkson takes money from parents to train and market their sons.

The David Sills farce is a whole other Clarkson marketing gimmick.

  7. 1960’s calling Sam Gilbert, come in Sam Gilbert. Wait, was that 40-50 years ago? Trogan sanctions today or no UCLA sanctions before I was born… hmm. I’ll take Trogan sanctions today for $1000 Alex.

  8. Look, three UCLA players were just arrested on felony theft charges.

Yep, UCLA only recruits choir angels.

  9. Sam Gilber,
Please post a link in which it shows that UCLA was found guilty of cheating during the dynasty. You can’t can you? then shut the puck up.

    Circlejerk,
Typical response from a trojan after losing or about to potentially lose a recruit “he’s not that good, Kiffin ran him off” or “there are many better QBs” Not enough scholarships is an accurate statement, and that is an example of what USC will be facing for the next three years – wanting 25 recruits but only 15 can come. The effect of that will be beyond 8 years. Get ready for an asswhoopin for the next decade from UCLA.

    Go Bruins!!

  10. Known as “Papa Sam” and “Papa G” to UCLA players, he began his relationship with UCLA basketball sometime around 1966-1967, when UCLA player Willie Naulls brought Lew Alcindor (now Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) and Lucius Allen to him for some counseling. He opened up his Pacific Palisades home to the players and became an advisor to many.[4]He bought clothes, cars, and even arranged abortions for players’ girlfriends.
And thats just a small snippet from wikipedia!
Here’s a quote from Bill Walton arguably the greatest bruin of them all: Bill Walton Quote – If the UCLA teams of the late 1960s and early 1970s were subjected to the kind of scrutiny (other schools) have been, UCLA would probably have to forfeit about eight national championships and be on probation for the next 100 years.”
That’s for all the bruins out there that think its cool to throw stones while living in a glass house the size of Mt. Rushmore…Clowns!!

  11. It’s ridiculous not to admit that ucla cheated during Wooden’s era. Everyone knows what Sam Gilbert did, and ucla was penalized after Wooden left. Jerry Tarkanian’s famous quote “the NCAA is so made at ucla that they put Cal State Northridge on probation”. Wooden looked the other way. The year Long Beach State was put on a 3 year probation (the one year Lute Olson coached there) they had a great shot at taking down the bruins. Get over your self-rightous attitude.

  12. Hey suckaFREE, where and when did Walton state that, I’d love to read it. I know Walton is brutally honest, but I am surprised he would say it like it is, especially it being ucla.

  13. Spin, turn, Spin, turn, Spin, left, right, turn, spin…it still looks the same…USC is facing SANCTIONS and will suck for the next 8-10 years.

UCLA basketball was never sanctioned during the John Wooden years. Sam Gilbert was not a UCLA employee just an ovezealous booster/fan just like USC had in Marv Goux funneling money to the USC players in the same era as Sam Gilbert.

    PC’s teeth,
I don’t consider them Bruins until they wear the UCLA uniform, in fact I don’t think they’ve even participated in a summer practice yet…it’s not like if they were active players being thugs like USC has had…regardless, I don’t think RN will keep these players on the squad if there is an ounce of guilt in the involvement that we don’t know anything about as of right now – @ UCLA ZERO thug tolerance…the bright side? three scholarships beeing available for the next class is not a bad thing for UCLA – considering they only have 13, that would give them 16 for the next class…see? it’s all good. Go Bruins!!

  14. UCLA ROB…
    Wittek is a project. Period.

The point of my post was to bring to light the agenda of Steve Clarkson and to show displeasure for Kiffin’s hurried and tranparent relationship with Clarkson regarding Wittek & Sills. It’s a bad road to go down.

Feel free to run over to your UCLA sites and share this info with your friends.

I only hope word gets to Kiffin. Whatever you can do to help.

  15. Honestly, I wasn’t alive when Wooden was coaching. WTF do you think I care about Sam Gilbert? NCAA did nothing to UCLA’s program and the banners still hang. In today’s world, SC just got wacked with the worst sanctions in ages and UCLA has three dipsh*ts in jail. I bet you’d trade three dipsh*ts for a year off the bowl ban or a few scholarships back. Sanction On!

  16. LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL!

  17. datrout…At least they’ve got their former asst. coach in there to show them the ropes! ROFLMAO

  18. Wittek aint no progect haha who are you kidding? He’s an elite QB that USC just lost. I guarantea you UCLA will snag that golden arm away from the crutches of pathetic USc. Enjoy your sanktions girls and rest knowing we are elite above you in so many fashions like sports, girls, and education level.

  19. Once again, UCLA ROB pretends to not have read a question he doesn’t want to answer.

I love how bruins have never won an argument on this board.

  20. Did UCLA ROB just type “guarantea” and “sanktions?”

Looks like he was taking the same ucla summer classes as Shirley and the Richardson boys.
