  1. That is one heck of a silver lining. Without Mustain, USC would have to turn to Boyd, Scroggins, or a walk-on.

  2. He heard there’s open competition at the OL and FB positions. Or maybe he’s applying for that “Compliance Officer” position.

  3. You mean the compliance officer where in which one must have complete understanding of NCCA regulations??

  4. Solid guy, team player. We’re lucky to have him as a Trojan. I’d really like to see him catch on somewhere in the NFL like Matt Cassel.

  5. Brother Mustain, listen to me now. This is the Rev. W.E.B. Dupree talkin’ to you, and I want you to listen real good.

Recently at my church (the Normandie Lord of Zion), I was counselin’ a young woman, a very sweet girl, who’d gone and gotten herself knocked up by some no-count hood. And she was thinkin’ of gettin’ an abortion. And I told her not to try to take the easy way out, ’cause down the road, when her conscience won’t let her sleep at night, she’ll find out it wasn’t so easy after all.

And it struck me — USC is kinda like that girl who wanted an abortion. Right now, USC has got itself a problem — the NCAA sanctions. And USC thinks it can just make that problem go away — by appealin’ and gettin’ itself off the hook. USC thinks it can just terminate the sanctions the way some folks might terminate a pregnancy!

But just like that girl in my church, USC needs to face up to the truth, and accept the consequences of what it’s done, and there ain’t no easy way out of this one.

So I tell you, Brother Mustain, you don’t have to make up your mind today — you can marinate on it a bit — but you better get right with the Lord and get away from that wicked football program. As long as USC won’t accept the truth, playin’ for USC is no different than gettin’ an abortion. You feel me?

I want all the Trojan fans out there to know, that down at the Normandie Lord of Zion church, we are prayin’ for y’all, that you turn away from wickedness, and toward the Word of the Lord! AMEN! PRAISE THE LORD!

  6. Back in the John Wooden/Papa Sam days at UCLA coeds never had to worry about paying for abortions. John and Sam had everyone covered!

  7. Hey W.E.B…. Your comments are actually somewhat entertaining, but try to keep them a bit shorter. If we wanted short stories we’d log onto amazon.

  8. I have to give out some props to MM.(1)Coming to Troy (2) Staying the course. However, I think it was very cruel of Petey. This kid did not stand a chance at QB against the Orange County QB factory. JB should have been jetsoned but the bias agains MS saved him. JB’s 5/6 six year stint at SC did train him well to make living as a back up QB around the league and he will for years to come. Also, as JB continues to bounce from team to team he will have many systems on his resume thus making him a comodity as QB’s go down late in season and a 3rd QB is needed on the rosters.

Only time will tell if MM gets the track as MC or JB. Hopefully, he gets the MC track. Fat contract after 5 years in the league.

  9. Hi Jay#42,

Mitch I believe was the #1 ranked QB in the country out of HS. He was expected to be the starter. Matt is an extremely rare QB. He was the #1 ranked HS player for any position in the country by the end of his junior year. I believe that was a first. It is no surprise to anyone who has watched this kid (he is from my home city so we’ve taken an interest over the years) that he beat everyone out. Mitch has really improved since Matt arrived and they are now on equal footing. Matt has the edge as he can return next year, so with all things equal Matt will start. On top of that advantage Matt was the starter last year so Mitch would need to distinctly exceed his ability to be the starter.

I see Mitch getting drafted and eventually starting in the NFL. I can also see him having a great career in the NFL. He has all of the skills and is a gamer. He excels under pressure. I for one am very pleased that he chose to stay!
