Kiffin Surprised

Lane Kiffin said today in New York he was surprised the Titans are suing him according to the Associated Press.
“(It) was done no differently than any we did at SC or Tennessee. I didn’t anticipate this. No one would have.”

  1. Oddly reminiscent of Kiffin’s playing down the sanctions by explaining that USC has a long history of being put on probation.

I.e, I/we always behave this way, what’s the big deal?

You guys really found the perfect coach for your institution. Too bad about Garret leaving, though.

  2. how is nueheisel’s history any better? i have finally seen the light. garrett was right. nothing but envy. how else can we explain these trolls? seriously, will someone put in some time and investigate if trojans popluate ucla blogs?

you trolls are denigrating the purity of the usc-ucla rivalry with your presence here.

but it is helpful to know thyine enemy. so thank you fools. as usual, you continue to disappoint.

sam gilbert and nueheisel have simply yet to get caught. it’s only a metter of time you hypocrites.

  3. If Kennedy Pola had a clause in HIS contract, shouldn’t HE be the one being sued? Shame on Fisher for going through with this…

  4. It’s not Jeff Fisher who’s suing Kiffin I’ll bet…it’s the owner Bud “flip off Buffalo” Adams. I’ll bet he’s the thrust of the suit. Fisher might but upset, but he’s a Trojan first.

  5. The breach is with Pola, since he signed the contract and it’s not like anyone held a gun to his head. So really the major question that remains unanswered –and Wolf does not bother to ask or analyze — is exactly what do Fisher & Titans stand to gain and why the fuss? Are they doing this for publicity, bruised ego, maybe even simple revenge.

If you want some thoughtful insights instead of Wolf’s supposed scoops, check out Chris Dufresne’s sensible insights on this in the L.A. Times blog.

  6. scinsc5, Why are we not on our own blogs? it’s very simple, USC gives us all the entertainment without having to but a ticket. USC is truly the “laugh factory” of college football. You should learn from the best, Notre Dame is the epitome of class when it comes to collegiate athletics. The Fighting Irish and the Bruins are going to kick some trOJan butt this year.

  7. Stop embarrassing yourself NDLarry. The only joke in college football is the most overrated program in all of sports, Notre Dame. You guys go through head coaches like Tiger Woods goes through women.

You guys keep grinding out victories against teams like Navy! ….wait a second, who’s won 2 of the last 3?

  8. The reason the Titans aren’t suing Kennedy is that they allege that USC “induced” Kennedy to violate his contract. This is a separate claim from what actions they may take regarding Kennedy. But as any attorney knows, bigger pockets are the better target. It will be difficult to prove damages but I suspect they are looking for a quick settlement and, more importantly, headlines.

  9. F*ck Lane Kiffin!! F*ck Lane Kiffin!! F*ck Lane Kiffin!! I’m tired of fellow Trojan fans defending him! Look at all of my posts, I knew this prick would get our program into hot water. What a douche bag. I can’t stand him!!

  10. USConquer: you are wise, sir. we need more like you around here who call it like it is.

  11. notre dame has lost 2 of 3 against navy? now that is truly a laugh factory. NDjack*ss–you are embarassing yourself. i do welcome your laughable comments though. only just occassionally please.

  12. My my, such hostility. Anyone know what the over/under is on the next stupid move by kitty that will get SC sued or sanctioned? Is it a week? Hostility on the part of we Trojans should be reserved for Lame Kitty, not a bunch of pathetic, sorry wannabes with a futile hope of a win in November. Even kitty will beat those fools.

  13. Kiffin takes the Alfred E. Neuman approach to the consequences of his actions “what me worry?”

I am a Bruin fan and will probably get bashed for saying this…I actually root for the trogans when they are playing outside of the Pac Ten (12) because I want to see the conference lifted to National prominence where it belongs and I hope that all Pac ten schools do well outside of the conference…..but you trogans are in real trouble with that train wreck Lame running your football program.

  14. This might shed some light on Tennessee’s motivation, from Michael Lev of the OCR.

“Or maybe the whole thing is a thinly veiled publicity gambit dressed up as litigation meant to embarrass the most reviled man in the state of Tennessee.

You dont have to dig too deeply into the lawsuit to determine its the latter. Page 5 contains the key paragraph. You can read the graph in its entirety after the jump.

(I challenge you to get through it without laughing out loud.)

Kiffin and USCs actions involving Tennessee Football were intentional, without legal justification, and were part of a course and pattern of conduct fostered by Kiffin and USC to use improper methods and means to the direct harm and damage of parties to contracts, to interfere with existing contracts and induce the breach thereof, including the Pola Contract: For instance, in December 2008, Kiffin accepted the contractual position of head football coach at the University of Tennessee. Without warning, in January 2010, Kiffin abruptly departed after one season, leaving the University of Tennessee without an experienced head football coach, to accept the head coach position he currently holds at USC. Shortly thereafter, Kiffin and USC persuaded four more University of Tennessee coaches Monte Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, James Cregg and Willie Mack Garza to leave the University of Tennessee to assume employment in coaching positions with USC. Upon information and belief, USC and Kiffin also attempted to hire for USC a running backs coach, Eric Bienemy, who was under contract at the time with the National Football League team known as the Minnesota Vikings. USC and Kiffin were unsuccessful in persuading Bienemy to end his relationship with Minnesota, but upon information and belief, Minnesota was forced to renegotiate Bienemys salary to its detriment due to Kiffin and USCs acts of interference.

So let me make sure I have this right: Kiffin is legally at fault for exercising the buyout option in his UT contract? And hes in the wrong for trying to hire currently employed assistant coaches which happens every day in college football and the NFL?”

  15. The TRUE laugh factory stat of the day:

USC has beaten Notre Dame 8 times in a row with an average score of 40-15.

Now that’s a sugaaaaaaaary sweeeeeeeeet scooooooop, eh?

  16. Do doubt there are many in the state of Tennessee that despise Kiffin but I can’t see the Titans involving themselves in it. Pro teams don’t get involved in this kind of thing. It makes no sense to me.

The Bruins are on here because this is the closest thing to victory they have felt in a long time. Really sad.

  17. Look, Kiff, Kennedy, and Fish have talked and squashed beef. This whole lawsuit is brought on by the state of Tenn. which has a vendetta against Kiff. Screw them, sore losers.

This is a promotion for Pola. Let the big man roll!

  18. The Rev. W.E.B. Dupree has got some great news for all yall USC students, staff, or whoever that want to escape that wicked university. Me and my deacons from Normandie Lord of Zion have set up a new underground railroad to smuggle escaping USC students through West Adams and Koreatown up to Wilshire Blvd., where well put you on a bus bound for Westwood… and freedom!

On Friday night, I will have an operative at the Tacos El Unico stand at Vermont and Adams, disguised as the cashier. Just tell him, Yo quiero un taco de libertad. Well take care of the rest!

  19. trolls–your bruins are staring down the barrel of a 3-9 season. what comes after that?

  20. @scinsc5,”trolls–your bruins are staring down the barrel of a 3-9 season. what comes after that?”

Then we reload and try again next year if that is the case…maybe we can try and request a non conference schedule like Fu$c and play St Mary’s College For The Blind or Eastern North Western Prep University at home so we can run up our wins to try and make it to the nut bowl…

Good luck on the U.S.S trogan as it sinks into obscurity.

  21. It was Pola’s job to abide by the conditions in his contract and seek permission – if required – to speak to USC, AND to communicate that condition to USC if it was not known. The way this “lawsuit” sounds – haven’t seen it – is like USC intentionally lured Pola to take a job saying essentially “to h— with your contract” we want you so talk with us, “we won’t permit you to get permission to talk to us”. That is absurd. These situations arise daily in the football world, particularly at this time of year. Is Pola named as a defendant for breaching his contract, and if not, why not? Don’t want to hurt him, or stir the pot, but it would seem that that was a necessary claim here… just saying….!!! If the contract wasn’t breached, then where’s the claim against USC?
