USC v. Texas

Here’s the official announcement on USC playing Texas in 2017 and 2018 along with hosting Utah State in 2013.

USC AND TEXAS TO MEET IN FOOTBALL IN 2017 AND 2018; UTAH STATE TO VISIT USC IN 2013
LOS ANGELES-USC and Texas will play a home-and-home football series in 2017 and 2018, Trojan athletic director Pat Haden announced today (Aug. 26).
USC also completed its 2013 schedule with the addition of a home game against Utah State on Sept. 21.
“USC versus Texas is a classic match-up and I’m sure fans from both schools, as well as all college football fans, will look forward to these games with much anticipation,” said Haden. “It’s been a long time since USC has played Texas in the regular season, and of course we all remember how exciting the recent bowl game meeting was between the teams.
“We’re also glad to be able to fill out our 2013 schedule by adding Utah State as a seventh home game that year.”
USC will host the Longhorns in the Coliseum on Sept. 16, 2017, then the Trojans will play in Austin on Sept. 15, 2018.
The Trojans hold a 4-1 lead in the series with Texas, with wins in 1955 (19-7) and 1967 (17-13) in the Coliseum and in 1956 (44-20) and 1966 (10-6) in Austin.
USC and Texas last met in the 2006 BCS Championship Game in the Rose Bowl (following the 2005 season), a dramatic 41-38 Longhorns victory in the final seconds that denied the Trojans a third consecutive national championship.
Troy is 4-0 all-time against Utah State, with home victories in 1928 (40-12), 1930 (65-0), 1984 (42-7) and 1989 (66-10).
Besides its annual series with Notre Dame, USC’s other non-conference opponents through 2018 include Boston College, Minnesota, Syracuse, Virginia and Hawaii.

  1. Just think, by Sept. 16, 2017, the USC/Texas Rose Bowl game will be almost 12 years in the past. Maybe there could be a reunion of all the old stars, like Vince Young and Reggie B– Oh wait, maybe not!

  2. supposedly Ronald Powell and Dominique Easley cleaned out their lockers and skipped practice yesterday b/c they were unhappy with how the upperclassmen were treating them, particularly the OL..

..supposedly Powell and C Mike Pouncey got into a scuffle a couple days ago and Powell got his azz handed to him by the bigger, older Pouncey…

Pouncey had this quote yesterday about the freshman class:

Everybody needs to come in with that type of attitude, but at the end of the day the freshmen need to shut their mouths and come play. They havent done nothing on Saturday and most of the fans dont even know who they are. Until they prove themselves, they need to sit back and let the older guys play. That whole recruiting class is cocky.

Meyer on how the freshmen are performing: Just OK. Actually, [I’m] a little disappointed in some of them. I thought theyd go take a spot. A few guys are doing decent [safety] Matt Elam, [DT] Dominique Easley and [WR] Quinton Dunbar who has been very good for us and might play this year. [DE] Ronald Powell had a great practice today, but didnt have a great camp. Hes coming on strong now. Some of those big-game guys, I thought wed have some of them cracking the lineup right now but not yet.

  4. And Powell could enroll in the spring, so as to not impact the reduced scholarships next year.

  5. USC is still to scared to play Boise St

but I will be watching the USC/Texas games — those games should be a LOT better than watching boring Ohio St

On second thought… Texas/Nebraska was boring as hell and Texas only won by cheating

But it will be much better that USC/Notre Dame because Notre Dame puts the “B” in boring

the most interesting game should be USC/UCLA because UCLA finally has a chance since this will be a down year for USC
(although I’m not predicting a win for the weasil)

  6. oregon111-if 13-0 is a down year, then yes, usc may have a down year. usc is no longer scared to play boise state now that crazy carroll is gone. maybe usc should schedule boise st for next year. kiffin was already talkin’ smack to tennessee about playin’ in next year’s chic filet season opener, so he sounds open to changing the schedule. plus, since usc may not play in a bowl next year, boise might help usc’s schedule. maybe aaron corp will be leading the ducks?

good luck my duck friend. by the way, did you hear the rumor about how ohio state stole the ducks’ offensive signals in the rose bowl?
